Job Description for Full Board of
Directors |

Believe in and be an
active advocate and ambassador for the values, mission, and vision of
Carter Community School. Carter Community School Board members
must embody the values and the mission of the school. They must be
committed to ensuring that all students will strive for academic
excellence. Board members will leverage personal and professional
contacts, and expertise, for the benefit of the school.

Cultivate meaningful
relationships with organizations and community groups in Durham.
The Board is a vital link to the community and the media. Garnering
support from members of the community will be an important element of
a comprehensive public relations strategy for the school.

Support the School
Director and review her performance. The Board ensures that the
School Director has the professional support she needs to further the
goals of Carter Community School. The board will annually evaluate the
School Director's performance, and offer constructive feedback for
growth.

Ensure provision of
adequate resources. One of the Board's foremost responsibilities
is to ensure that there are adequate resources for Carter Community
School to fulfill its mission. Board members and the School Director
will be responsible for raising funds to support the school. All Board
members will endeavor to provide an annual financial contribution to
the best of their personal ability. In addition, if needed, the board
will aid the School Director in identifying and securing a school
facility.

Manage resources
effectively. The Board approves the annual budget; reviews
financial reports regularly; and ensures that proper financial
controls are in place.

Monitor and ensure
compliance with regulatory statutes. The Board reviews school
policies, programs, and practices, to ensure compliance with North
Carolina statutes, and other local, state, and federal laws.

Assess its own
performance. The Board ensures that the total organization is
effective in achieving its mission, and efficient in using its
resources. As part of this responsibility, the Board will assess
itself annually, thereby recognizing its achievements and reaching a
consensus on which areas need to be improved.

Identify, recruit, and
screen candidates for the Board of Directors, Advisory Council, and
any necessary Task Forces.
